Klarus XT12GT Flashlight Review- Advanced than the Klarus XT11GT

Last Updated on October 18, 2026

If you’re looking for a high-performance tactical flashlight with excellent beam distance, the Klarus XT12GT Pro Tactical Flashlight is worth considering. Known for its powerful focused beam, rugged construction, and practical controls, this upgraded model is designed for outdoor activities, emergency situations, and professional use.

In this Klarus XT12GT review, we’ll examine both the original XT12GT and the upgraded XT12GT Pro. Although they share similar names and a maximum output of 1,600 lumens, they have important differences in beam distance, battery capacity, charging, and LED technology.

The XT12GT Pro uses a Luminus SFT40 LED and delivers a manufacturer-rated beam distance of up to 850 meters. It also includes USB-C charging, a 21700 rechargeable battery, intelligent temperature regulation, and multiple lighting modes.

Let’s take a closer look at its features, performance, advantages, and limitations to see whether it’s still a worthwhile flashlight in 2026.

Klarus XT12GT and XT12GT Pro tactical flashlight review

Why Choose the Klarus XT12GT Pro Tactical Flashlight?

The XT12GT Pro stands out because it combines a concentrated long-distance beam with simple tactical controls. Instead of focusing only on raw lumen output, Klarus designed this model to project light over considerable distances.

Here are its main advantages:

  • Powerful brightness: Delivers up to 1,600 lumens using the recommended rechargeable battery.
  • Excellent beam throw: Reaches a manufacturer-rated distance of 850 meters.
  • USB-C charging: Recharges the battery without requiring a separate desktop charger.
  • Battery indicator: Helps users monitor remaining battery power.
  • Six lighting modes: Turbo, High, Medium, Low, Strobe, and SOS.
  • Durable construction: Aluminum body with IPX8 water resistance.
  • Flexible controls: Dual-tail switches and selectable operating settings.

These features make it especially appealing to users who need more distance than a typical compact everyday-carry flashlight provides.

Klarus XT12GT vs. XT12GT Pro: Specifications Compared

The original Klarus XT12GT and XT12GT Pro are different generations. The original uses an 18650-based power system and magnetic charging, while the Pro moves to a larger 21700 battery and USB-C charging.

The Pro also uses a different LED and optical system, which explains its substantially longer beam throw.

The biggest upgrade is beam distance. Despite producing the same maximum number of lumens, the XT12GT Pro concentrates its output into a more intense, longer-reaching beam.

For exact model specifications and operating limits, consult the Klarus XT12GT Pro instruction manual.

Klarus XT12GT Review: Design and Performance

The original XT12GT helped establish Klarus as a strong option for users seeking a powerful rechargeable flashlight with long-distance illumination.

Its 1,600-lumen output, 603-meter beam distance, and magnetic charging system made it an attractive choice for outdoor and professional use.

However, the XT12GT Pro improves on several of those features with a more focused beam and higher-capacity battery.

For a broader look at the brand’s lineup, explore our Klarus flashlight reviews and comparisons.

Rugged Aluminum Construction

The Klarus XT12GT Pro uses a durable aluminum alloy body with a hard-anodized finish designed to resist abrasion and everyday wear.

Its textured grip helps users maintain control in wet conditions or when wearing gloves.

Klarus XT12GT tactical flashlight aluminum body and construction

The Pro measures approximately 171.2mm long and weighs 171 grams without the battery.

It also has an IPX8 rating, with Klarus specifying water resistance during immersion up to 2 meters under the manufacturer’s test conditions.

Although suitable for wet environments, the flashlight shouldn’t be treated as a dedicated diving light.

Key Features of the Klarus XT12GT Pro Tactical Flashlight

1. Powerful 1,600-Lumen Output and 850-Meter Throw

The XT12GT Pro delivers up to 1,600 lumens using the recommended Klarus 21GT-50 rechargeable lithium-ion battery or an equivalent compatible battery.

Its Luminus SFT40 LED and reflector produce a concentrated beam with a maximum rated intensity of 160,000 candela.

According to the manufacturer, the beam reaches up to 850 meters under ANSI flashlight testing.

However, this doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily identify fine details at that distance. The ANSI beam-distance figure is based on a defined minimum illumination threshold, and practical visibility depends on weather, surroundings, and the object being illuminated.

2. Six Lighting Modes

The XT12GT Pro provides four regular brightness settings plus Strobe and SOS.

Mode Brightness Rated Runtime
Turbo 1,600 lumens 2 hours 45 minutes*
High 500 lumens 6 hours
Medium 100 lumens 27 hours
Low 10 lumens 288 hours
Strobe 1,600 lumens Not separately specified
SOS 100 lumens Not separately specified

*The rated Turbo runtime includes changes in output caused by thermal regulation and battery discharge. It doesn’t mean the flashlight maintains 1,600 lumens continuously for the entire period.

3. Intelligent Temperature Control

High-output flashlights produce substantial heat. The XT12GT Pro includes intelligent temperature management to help protect its electronic components.

When the flashlight becomes too hot, the system can reduce output automatically.

This is normal protective behavior rather than necessarily indicating a defective battery or LED.

4. Dual-Tail Switch Operation

The XT12GT Pro features a dual-tail switch designed for convenient one-handed operation.

  • Primary switch: Supports momentary and constant illumination with quick access to high output.
  • Secondary switch: Provides access to additional lighting functions, depending on the selected operating setting.

The flashlight supports Tactical and Outdoor control settings, allowing users to prioritize different switch functions.

This arrangement can be useful when wearing gloves or when quick access to a particular brightness level is important.

If you prefer a model with a side switch, our Klarus G20 review covers a different control design.

5. USB-C Charging and Battery Indicator

Unlike the original XT12GT’s magnetic charging arrangement, the Pro includes a USB-C charging connection.

Its supplied 21700 rechargeable battery provides a rated capacity of 5,000mAh.

The flashlight also includes a battery indicator to help users monitor remaining power.

Charging time varies depending on the power source and battery condition. Use a suitable USB charging adapter and follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions.

Battery compatibility: The XT12GT Pro supports several specified battery configurations, including a 21700 lithium-ion cell, a compatible 18650 cell, and certain CR123A or other lithium-cell combinations.

However, maximum brightness depends on the battery type. Klarus specifies that two CR123A batteries limit maximum output to approximately 600 lumens.

Never mix different battery chemistries or use unapproved cells.

Klarus XT12GT Pro vs. Acebeam L16: Tactical Flashlight Comparison

When comparing long-range tactical flashlights, the Acebeam L16 family is a reasonable alternative.

However, Acebeam has produced multiple L16 generations, including the original L16, the L16 2.0 with an SFT40 LED, and a newer L16 2.0 version featuring an SFT-42R LED.

It’s important to compare the correct versions rather than treating every L16 specification as interchangeable.

The Klarus XT12GT Pro offers the longest manufacturer-rated beam distance among these versions. The newer Acebeam L16 2.0 with the SFT-42R LED produces more total light at 3,000 lumens but has a shorter rated beam distance.

Acebeam’s earlier L16 2.0 with the SFT40 LED was rated at 2,100 lumens and 670 meters. Check the LED version before purchasing, since both specifications may appear in product listings.

For verified details, see Acebeam’s L16 2.0 product information.

Which Flashlight Should You Choose?

Choose the Klarus XT12GT Pro if your priority is maximum beam distance, direct tail-switch operation, and an easy-to-recharge 21700 battery system.

Consider the Acebeam L16 2.0 if you prefer a combination of wider illumination, high brightness, and separate side and tail controls.

Neither flashlight is automatically better for every task. Beam pattern, size, battery requirements, and control preferences matter as much as maximum lumen output.

Klarus XT12GT Pro in Real-World Situations

The XT12GT Pro’s long-range beam makes it useful for activities where illuminating distant objects is more important than lighting a wide area at close range.

Camping and Outdoor Activities

Turbo can help when scanning distant trails or open areas, while Medium and Low are more practical for routine campsite activities.

The 10-lumen Low setting is especially useful when you want to conserve battery power.

Emergency and Search Activities

With a rated beam distance of 850 meters, the XT12GT Pro offers strong long-range illumination for inspecting large outdoor spaces.

However, actual visibility depends on weather and the object being illuminated. Fog, heavy rain, and airborne dust can significantly reduce useful viewing distance.

Security and Professional Work

The dual-tail switch allows quick one-handed operation, which can be convenient for professionals working in poorly lit environments.

Selectable Tactical and Outdoor settings also let users choose the controls most suitable for their work.

Strobe can provide attention-getting signaling, although it should be used responsibly because rapidly flashing light may affect people with photosensitive conditions.

Important Considerations Before Buying

Before purchasing the Klarus XT12GT Pro, consider the following:

  • Beam pattern: Its concentrated hotspot is excellent for distance but may be less comfortable for close-up work.
  • Battery compatibility: Use an appropriate battery to achieve the full 1,600-lumen output.
  • Charging: USB-C is convenient, but the port and cover need proper care.
  • Size: The large reflector head takes up more space than a compact EDC flashlight.
  • Heat management: Maximum brightness decreases when the flashlight gets hot.
  • Availability: Product listings and included accessories may vary by retailer.

If you prefer a smaller flashlight, read our Klarus XT11S and XT11GT comparison for other options in the same brand family.

  1. Hi Alex, I am completely confused: Was about to purchase the Maglite ML 150LR rechargeable system flashlight for my brother in Africa, who predominantly uses a flashlight for hunting and outdoor use, when someone else recommended the Klarus XT12 GT 1600 hunting kit which supposedly has a beam of 306m(he told me) although your guide says 603m. Firstly I would like to know whether it is 603 or 306m and in your opinion what would be the best flashlight to purchase. Hope to hear from you asap. Kind Regards

    1. USE Klarus 18GT-36 18650 3600 mAh battery to get maximum output. You must have to use 3600 mAh batteries to get near to 603m beam distance. If you use 2 x CR123A batteries or normal 18650 batteries with PCB protection, then it beam distance will be much lower than that.
